The Performa 15 Grand Finale celebrates the closing of the biennial, the many works that made this point in time such a special one in the city, and the presentation of The Malcolm McLaren Award in honor of the late artist and visionary for whom the award is named.
Championing the young and bold, the Malcolm McLaren prize is awarded to an artist whose contribution to the biennial demonstrates a risk-taking and irreverent spirit; praising the most innovative and through-provoking performance. The award, created by designer Marc Newson, will be presented by McLaren’s life partner Young Kim and Richard Hell, a founder of the punk scene and inspiration for the Sex Pistols.
The first Malcolm McLaren Award was given to Ragnar Kjartansson for his epic Performa Commission Bliss during the Performa 11 biennial. The second, awarded during Performa 13, celebrated Ryan McNamara’s bold MEƎM: A STORY BALLET ABOUT THE INTERNET. This year’s is the third presentation of the award.
Performa 15's Grand Finale takes place on Sunday, November 22nd, 9pm, at the Hôtel Americano. Cocktails by AVIV Vodka.
