Wyatt Kahn’s Self-Reflexive Puppet Show in T Magazine!
New York Times Style Magazine spotlights Performa 15 Commission Work by Wyatt Kahn, giving us insight into his transition from painter to performer, director, and writer for his work with Performa.
He engages with perhaps the signal tension of 21st-century art — the tug-of-war between abstract formalism and a conceptual preoccupation with art’s relationship to the everyday object. In the puppet show, the artist’s own paintings come to life to debate these topics, alongside the pros and cons of Instagram and yoga — that is, once Kahn’s puppet, a look-alike doll dangling from the artist’s neck, exits stage right.
