Performa Magazine Behind the Scenes: Pauline Curnier Jardin
For Performa 15, Performa Magazine kicks off Behind the Scenes, a series of write-ups, interviews, sketches, mock-ups, and a wealth of research and process materials, granting us a look at the thinking and work that went into conceiving and producing the biennial's many commissions, premieres, and projects. The series gives us a glimpse through the eyes of each piece's artist, documenting their diverse working styles, and allowing a more informed understanding of what it means to create art.
The first of this series highlights Pauline Curnier Jardin's spirited research collages and drawings, investigating Renaissance motifs that ultimately informed her Performa Commission, The Resurrection Plot. Her vibrant and highly visual materials hint at the humor in her work, with written and visual puns appearing throughout.
