Ilija Šoškić (b. 1935, Decani, Yugoslavia) is one of the most important artists of ex-Yugoslavia's conceptual tradition, pioneering performance, video and installation art. Among the first generation of the new art practices, his work mixes elements of cultural and political myth, drama and nature, and metaphysical fiction to illuminate philosophical themes of otherness, absence, and nothingness. In 2011 he represented Montenegro and Italy at the 54th Venice Biennale (2011).
